Boy Meets
Girl, Bella and Samuel Spewack September 24, 25, 26,
October 1, 2 Opening September 24 is Bella and Samuel Spewack’s seminal screwball comedy, Boy Meets Girl. Last seen on Broadway in 1998, this frenetic tale from the authors of Kiss Me Kate inspired later works as diverse as Speed-the-Plow and Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and could have been the template for the real-life antics of the infamous no-budget director Ed Wood. A very low class Hollywood studio, whose chief asset is a washed-up former cowboy star, hires two hack writers to come up with a new angle that will insure a hit movie – and a chance to sell out to a rival studio at a profit! Enter a girl from the studio cafeteria that’s very much “expecting,” and the light bulbs go off: pair the infant (as soon as it arrives) with the reluctant cowboy and presto – box office gold. But as they will, the best-laid plans go awry immediately, with hilarious results.
